Preview: Airdrieonians vs East Fife

September 14, 2017

Luke Watt is ready to meet another set of familiar faces on Saturday, and hopes the Diamonds can get back to winning ways against his former East Fife team-mates.

Motherwell loanee Watt has been more accustomed to a defensive role at previous clubs, but has shone in a holding midfield berth since joining Airdrie.

The 20-year-old is enjoying his spell at the club so far.

"It's been good, they're a great bunch of boys and they made it easy to integrate into the team.

"It's good to be playing games again, which is all I can ask. Hopefully it'll be a successful time for Airdrie and we'll get as many wins as we can."

Watt, the brother of former Diamonds loanee Josh, spent the second half of last season on loan at Saturday's opponents East Fife after an initial spell at Stranraer.

Unfortunately his return to Stair Park was not a happy one, with the Blues winning 3-1 on the day. The match followed back-to-back wins over Albion Rovers and Alloa Athletic, and Watt feels that it was just a bad day at the office.

"Last week was a blip, nobody was really at it on the day. It was one of those games where we just couldn't get the break of the ball.

"It's hard to pinpoint the difference between that and the two previous games, we were a bit more direct against Albion Rovers and Alloa. As a team we just seemed to perform better."

With the attention turning to Saturday's game against Darren Young's East Fife, Luke is looking forward to the chance to make amends.

"Obviously there will be a lot of players in their squad that I know well after being there on loan last season.

"I'm expecting a fairly even game, but hopefully the quality in our team shines through and we can get the win."

Fellow Motherwell loanee Jake Hastie is expected to be back in contention for the Diamonds after missing the Stranraer tie through injury, but Adam Brown is still rated as highly doubtful.

Greg Aitken referees the New Broomfield tie.
