Scottish FA Youth Cup
EAST KILBRIDE U20
Jay McInally (3)
Our Under 20s crashed out of the youth cup at the first round stage after a disappointing performance saw us lose 4-1 against East Kilbride Under 20s at K Park.
For the game manager Stevie Findlay included new first team loan signing Jordan Allan in the starting eleven whilst East Kilbride included former young Diamond Conor Bell in the starting eleven.
After a slow start to the game our young diamonds had the opening chance on the 13th minute when Scott Thomson hit a shot from inside the box after a free kick wasn't cleared however the ball went just over the bar and four minutes later East Kilbride had their first chance when the ball ended up with Jay McInally after a mistake and from inside the box he slotted the ball by Airdrie goalkeeper Matthew Kerr and into the back of the net to give them a 1-0 lead.
Our Under 20s searched for a way back into the game and had a chance on the 20th minute when a free kick was won about 20 yards from goal as from it Cameron Russell hit a curling shot but East Kilbride goalkeeper Craig Melrose made the save and five minutes later East Kilbride had another chance when Gavin Millar hit a shot from inside the box but the ball went into the side netting. Then on the 32nd minute our young diamonds had the games next chance when Lewis Gracie hit a shot on the volley from about 25 yards out but the ball went wide and neither team would create any more chances in the half and we headed into half time losing 1-0.
Airdrie went in search of a goal from the off and during the opening minute of the half had a chance when a free kick was won as from it the ball was crossed into the box and Jordan Allan got above his marker to send a header goal wards but the ball went over the bar and on the 50th minute East Kilbride had their first chance of the half when Michael Anderson hit a shot from inside the box but Matthew Kerr made the save. Then on the 52nd minute our Under 20s had the games next chance when Lewis Gracie hit a shot on the volley from the top of the box but the ball went over the bar however we were not to be denied an equaliser and on the 53rd minute Cameron Russell got onto the end of a dangerous low Calvin Cowie cross into the box with a shot and the ball flew by Craig Melrose and into the back of the net to make it 1-1.
Before the next chance Airdrie's Jordan Duncan picked up a yellow card for a foul on the 55th minute and two minutes later we had it when a corner was won as from it Joshua Edwards crossed the ball to the near post and Calvin Cowie got onto the end of it with a header goal wards but the ball went wide. East Kilbride then took control of the game and on the 58th minute Jay McInally scored his second goal of the game to give them a 2-1 lead and six minutes later Gavin Millar came close to make it 3-1 but his shot went into the side netting.
On the 65th minute our Under 20s made their first substitution as Ewan McGuinness came on for Robbie Leighton however it was East Kilbride who continued to create chances and Jay McInally missed a good one on the 66th minute and two minutes later he scored again to complete his hat trick and give them a 3-1 lead. Shortly after this our young diamonds made their final two substitutions as Callum Hollands and Kian Burns came on for Jordan Duncan and Lewis Gracie and East Kilbride made their first substitution as Trialist Kieran McGuire came on for Jay McInally and then on the 78th minute East Kilbride scored through Liam Craig to make it 4-1. There was still time left for East Kilbride to make another substitution as Blair Kidd came on for Morgan Smith who had picked up an injury and also for them to have one more chance when they hit a shot from inside the box but Matthew Kerr managed to tip the ball over the bar and from the resulting corner no danger was caused and we lost the game 4-1.
