Stranraer v Airdrieonian preview

20th March 2015

Scott Gray reckons the race for the play-offs is going right down to the wire - but a win at Stranraer will boost Airdrie's chances.

The wide midfielder is eager to push himself back into consideration for a starting slot as the season draws to a close, but is enjoying a positive atmosphere at New Broomfield nonetheless.

"The mood in the changing room is brilliant. There is a real confidence going about which comes from how well the team has been playing just now.

"It's been quite hard recently, not playing as much as I did to start with, but the gaffer picks the team that he thinks will get us the 3 points.

"If I have to come off the bench to help the team then I need to do well when I come on and hopefully get back in the starting line up."

Gray will be on standby for Saturday's trip to Stranraer with selection headaches looming for boss Gary Bollan.

Bryan Gilfillan fractured a cheekbone during last weekend's win over Morton, and the midfielder is likely to miss at least six weeks.

On top of that, team captain Paddy Boyle picked up a booking to take him over the disciplinary points threshold, and misses tomorrow's match through suspension.

Stephen Aitken's Stranraer returned to the top of League One on Tuesday evening, beating basement side Stirling Albion 1-0. Gray is aware that a tough match lies ahead.

"Every game you play in this league is going to be hard and you have to play well to pick up the points. Stranraer are a really tough team to beat.

"Every time we have played them this season it has been a really tight match, but if we can get away with a win it really boosts our chances of making the play-offs."

Those play-offs are now within four points for an Airdrie side who are unbeaten in 9 matches - the Club's best form in over a decade.

Meanwhile the sides currently in the top four positions have slipped up at various stages, allowing Airdrie and Peterhead to close the gap. With only seven games remaining, Scott sees more twists and turns ahead.

"I definitely see it going right to the wire. You see by the results that anyone can beat anyone in our league.

"We just have to carry on the form which we are on just now and knowing that the other teams around us are going to take points off each other, we have a good chance of making it."
