Forfar Athletic v Airdrieonians preview

19th December 2014

Forfar may be flying high at the top of the league, but captain Paddy Boyle says that Airdrie expect to bring three points home from Station Park.

The Diamonds make their first trip of the season to Forfar on Saturday, and defender Boyle says confidence is high on the back of a wonderful display against Dunfermline last weekend.

"Mood is confident as you would expect after a good result.

"We've felt that coming for a few weeks now without getting that bit of luck, so it's nice to hopefully have turned the corner."

The Airdrie skipper was instrumental in the 3:1 win over his old club, providing crosses for Bryan Prunty and Nathan Blockley to convert.

He revealed that the Pars' boo-boys spurred him on.

"It's always enjoyable playing against your old teams.

"I've had a bit of stick the last few times we've played them, so to get the win and set up a couple of goals is that bit sweeter."

With the trip to Angus looming, Boyle is confident that his side can give Diamonds fans an early gift in their last game before Christmas.

"It will undoubtedly be a tough game up at Forfar, but there is no reason the Dunfermline performance can't be repeated.

"The boys are confident and we expect to go there and win."

Dick Campbell's troops are unbeaten in four, winning three of those, and have remained at the top of the table while those around them have struggled for consistency.

The Loons were victorious in the earlier fixture at New Broomfield with a stoppage-time winner, coming from behind to win the match 2:1.

But with Airdrie making steady improvement since then, the confidence generated by a great team performance last week could go a long way.

Gavin Duncan will officiate, having already taken charge of two Airdrie matches this season - the recent home match against Morton, and the early-season tie against Peterhead, in which Keigan Parker was shown a controversial red card.
