Airdrieonians v Stenhousemuir preview

1st August 2014

Jim Lister is aiming to bounce back from last week's Petrofac Training Cup exit at the hands of Albion Rovers - and the hitman is determined to make amends against Stenhousemuir.

The Diamonds welcome the Warriors to New Broomfield in Saturday's League Cup first round tie, and Airdrie's Player of the Year is looking forward to the chance to put things right.

"We were obviously very disappointed in the result last weekend, but hopefully we have learned the lesson early from this.

"We will kick on and we're all looking forward to the double header".

A successful League campaign may be the priority for Lister and his team-mates, but that doesn't mean they are any less focussed on other competitions.

"This week's game is as important as any other at this point in the season.

"Everyone at the club would love a domestic run so that is what we aim for."

Stenhousemuir also made a shock exit from the Challenge Cup last week, at the hands of Highland League outfit Brora Rangers - who are managed by former Airdrie player Davie Kirkwood.

With the Diamonds due to travel to Ochilview for their opening league fixture in a week's time, Lister insists the squad are concentrating on one match at a time.

"These games do not have any bearing on one another... but both teams will want the double".

Airdrie were the victors the last time the sides met, with goals from Scott Stewart and Craig Barr sealing the three points.

Stenny boss Scott Booth has been busy in the summer transfer market, with no fewer than 11 new faces joining his squad, while 13 have headed for the exit door.

Familiar faces joining the Warriors include former Ayr defender Alan Lithgow, and strikers Martin Grehan and Colin McMenamin.

On the Diamonds' personnel front, goalkeeper Andy McNeil will face a late fitness test following a head knock in last week's match. Liam Coogans is recovering from an ankle injury and may make the squad.
