Airdrieonians v Forfar Athletic preview

18th October 2013

Striker Lewis Coult is hoping for a return to winning ways against Forfar at New Broomfield tomorrow, and knows that improvement is needed to kickstart the Diamonds' campaign.

Airdrie lie in 8th place in the SPFL League One table following last Saturday's last-gasp defeat at Arbroath, but hitman Coult argues that the targeted promotion play-off is within touching distance.

"We know we haven't played to our full potential yet, but you just have to look at the league to see how tight it is - with the exception of Rangers.

"We know that if we get a couple of wins then we're right back up in the top half of the table".

Coult netted for the Diamonds at Gayfield last week, but watched as a last minute Lee Erwin penalty sealed a 3-2 win for Arbroath.

The goal made it 5 for the season for 'The Flamingo', and the striker feels that there is enough firepower in the Airdrieonians squad to turn things around.

"It's always good to score goals, especially as a striker. In the last couple of games I've scored and not particularly played well so that's a plus.

"Jim (Lister) and I hit it off from the start and I still think we will score loads together.

"With Liam (Coogans) it's different, he's sharp and has a great eye for goal. I have no doubt that he will be a star in the future and play at the highest level".

Tomorrow's opposition, Forfar, have also made an inauspicious start to the campaign, currently lying in 9th postion with 7 points.

The Loons hosted Airdrie in the season opener, an exciting 3-3 draw. Coult was on the scoresheet that day, and he knows the team have to do better going in to the second round of matches.

"We have to work hard as a team and also believe in ourselves. We know we're good players, it's now time we start proving it."

Chris O'Neill is suspended following his late red card at Arbroath. Midfielder Nathan Blockley is an injury doubt for Jimmy Boyle after limping off early last Saturday.

Forfar, who have never won a match at New Broomfield, are running the rule over former Hibs and Dundee player Jamie McCluskey and the winger may feature as a trialist.
