Airdrieonians v Stenhousemuir preview

16th August 2013

David Sinclair says Airdrieonians need to shake off being slow starters.

The Diamonds have fallen behind in each of their opening three matches this season but recovered and remain unbeaten.

Victories in the Ramsdens Challenge Cup and League Cup, over Hamilton Accies and Stenhousemuir respectively, were followed by a draw at Forfar Athletic last weekend.

On Saturday, Airdrie will open their SPFL League One home campaign with Stenny making their second trip to New Broomfield in as many weeks.

And midfielder Sinclair has warned his team-mates they cannot expect to be the 'Comeback Kings' all the time.

He said: "We can't keep going behind early and we've been fortunate in the fact that we've got goals in the team and have been able to come back.

"We need to work as a team and start games from the beginning rather than waiting 15 to 20 minutes or finding ourselves a goal down."

Former Livingston and Ayr United ace Sinclair has made an impressive start to his career with the Diamonds.

And he puts that down to a Hampden rehabilitation programme which saw him finally overcome the injury problems he suffered last term.

He added: "I scored 10 goals by the start of January last season. I thought it was going to be a really good season but I got injured.

"I kept coming back too early but I took some time off to rest and was able to do my rehabilitation with the physio at Hampden. I got that done through PFA Scotland.

"I feel great now and hopefully it stays that way."

Airdrie welcome back teenager Chris O'Neil following a one-match ban with fellow defender Gregor Buchanan also poised to return after a knee injury.

Manager Jimmy Boyle was on Thursday night hoping to sign ex-Partick Thistle and Dunfermline Athletic left-back Paddy Boyle to a permanent contract.
