Airdrieonians v Dunfermline Athletic preview

15th November 2013

Andrew Duncan says his ambition is to become first-choice keeper at Airdrieonians.

The 20-year-old made only his fourth start for the club in the 2-0 defeat to Rangers at Ibrox last Saturday.

Duncan, a Rangers fan, performed admirably as the Diamonds returned to SPFL League One action having faced the Light Blues a week earlier in the Scottish Cup.

Now he is looking to the future and ahead of this weekend's visit of Dunfermline Athletic, Duncan admits he wants to be the first name on new gaffer Gary Bollan's team sheet.

"Being the number one keeper here is my priority," he said. "It's my goal.

"If I had to be given the choice between starting every week or playing at Ibrox, I would go for the first one.

"Playing is all I want to do and I don't think I have done myself any harm.

"To play in front of more than 40,000 fans was amazing. The experience was unreal and I'm taking a lot out of the [Rangers] game."

The Diamonds are desperate to improve their league form given they currently sit bottom of the table and four points adrift of safety.

A first victory in six games over the Pars would lift Bollan's side into ninth place on goal difference should East Fife lose at home to Stranraer.

"It's a massive game for us and we really need three points," Duncan added.

"The boys have been lifted since the gaffer came in and I think the fans will see the difference in us against a team like Dunfermline."

Airdrie will again be without injured defenders Chris O'Neil (groin) and Grant Evans (ankle).

But former Motherwell midfielder Jamie Pollock could make another appearance for his hometown club. The 21-year-old was listed as a trialist at Ibrox and came on as a late substitute.
