Club Statement on future strategy

10th May 2014

This past season has been one of mixed fortunes and emotions for us all but the last few months have surely heartened every Airdrieonians supporter and given us great hope for next season. As Chairman I am delighted with the team’s progress and turnaround under the exciting new management team led by Gary Bollan and we will do everything we can to ensure that we build on this momentum.

Footballing success has been modest over recent years but the club has always been there for the people of Airdrie and provided us with some of our most cherished football memories. We wish to create more!

The club will always require the support of its fans, its partners, and its community to safeguard its future and today is no different as we face up to the challenge of addressing a projected shortfall in operational and commercial income for next season.

It is therefore incumbent on your Board to look at all options available and take the necessary steps to address the current business need and put in place a strategy for short-term financial stability and medium term growth. We also wish to keep the momentum going on the playing side to ensure the club is best placed to mount a realistic challenge in next seasons’ league campaign.

The Board of Airdrieonians is committed to taking the club forward in Airdrie in a prudent and sustainable way but we need the support of our local community to achieve this.

Our preparations for next season, therefore, have already started in earnest.

We are pleased to announce that David Longmuir, former CEO of the SFL, will be joining us on a part time consultancy basis to look at how we can develop our current commercial activities and create a new partnership with our local business community. David has a wealth of experience in the delivery and management of successful Sponsorship and partnership activity, and we are delighted that he has agreed to work with us. It is also helpful that David is a native of Airdrie and has been a friend and follower of the Club all his life.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank John Drysdale, our retiring commercial manager, for his dedication and commitment to Airdrieonians for the last four years and we are grateful for all his hard work in relationship building within our local community. John has decided to hang up his boots but will work with David to deliver a smooth handover. David will be getting in touch with our existing and hopefully new partners in the next few weeks and we look forward to welcoming you all back to New Broomfield for the new season.

We are currently working on developing a new Airdrieonians Alliance with our local business community and more news of this will be announced shortly. I would encourage every local business to look out for this and be prepared to get involved.

Our outreach activity with Glencryan Primary school gives us a lot of satisfaction and we will continue to do what we can to develop that relationship. The basis of the involvement in this initiative has already been rolled out with an ongoing commitment to the Caldercruix Community Project.

The Supporters Trust is doing what it can to help the club and we are grateful for their work and endeavours on behalf of Airdrieonians. We wish to strengthen our relationship in the season ahead.

The support from the fans was instrumental in our recovery from the abyss last season and we need that to continue in to next season and beyond because without your continued emotional and financial support the club will not thrive.

Airdrieonians Football Club is working hard playing its part in delivering for its community and we now need our community to work with us to safeguard our future.

No other local institution brings awareness and profile to the town than the football club and together we all have an opportunity to take a big step forward. The Club, the Fans, the Community, and the Town, as one.
