Falkirk v Airdrie preview

25th January 2013

Airdrie travel to Westfield tomorrow looking for their first win over Falkirk since forming as United almost 11 years ago.

The Diamonds have faced the Bairns six times since 2002 but have still to register their first win against them.

The teams shared a 1-1 draw earlier in the season with Steven Pressley's troops running out 4-1 winners at the stadium just before Christmas.

But Airdrie gaffer Jimmy Boyle is feeling positive ahead of what looks set to be a tough 90 minutes, weather permitting.

He said: "I'm very upbeat as are the players for this weekend. I'm starting to see some of our players look more confident and become fitter and sharper.

"I'm happy with the way things are going but we could do with a couple of wins. I honestly think if we got two wins in a row, we could kick on.

"Falkirk are a good footballing team and they have a very good striker [Lyle Taylor] who is clinical and we will have to keep our eye on him.

"They will pass the ball. But when we played them here, we were the better team for an hour, passed it better than them and I'm going to tell the players that."

The Diamonds lost 2-1 to Dumbarton at New Broomfield last weekend but the manager felt his side were unlucky to leave the pitch empty-handed.

"I made a statement after the game that we didn't deserve to be beaten," he said. "And after watching the game back, I felt that even more.

"We had a spell of around nine minutes where we lost two poor goals. In the second half, I thought it was all about us and we really took the game to them.

"I think if we had brought it back to 2-2, we'd have gone on and won the game. There was a lot of desire there and we kept going and tried to get that goal."

Airdrie have just one player injured. Alan Cook is troubled with an ankle problem and was due to have a scan on Friday to get to the root of the problem.

David Lilley, Gavin Griffin, Sean Lynch and Jack Boyle are back in contention. Midfielder Ross Davidson plays his final game on loan from Kilmarnock.
