Airdrie returned to Broadwood for their second pre-season fixture, but it was hosts Clyde who came out on top.

A relatively strong Diamonds side were well beaten by Jim Chapman’s new charges at Broadwood, with the 3-1 scoreline being a reversal from the same fixture this time last year.

The first half had been relatively even with Kieran Macdonald’s second minute cross having Clyde keeper Blair Currie stretch to tip it away from goal early on.

A long ball from the back picked out Andy Ryan who had raced forward with 15 minutes on the clock, but the offside flag went up.

A minute later Adam Brown collected a loose ball then fired a snapshot wide to the left that was pushed away for a corner by Currie.

Former Dundee United striker David Goodwillie reacted well to a cross into the box to send an overhead kick for goal which saw Rohan Ferguson dive low to gather on the line in 19 minutes.

StrIker David Gormley attempted a speculative volley for goal two minutes later but he made no mistake on the stroke of half time when he rose high inside the box to meet Darren Miller’s corner and head the ball into the back of the net and put the hosts ahead.

The second half was only a few seconds old when a speculative cross from wide on the right by Miller saw Ferguson rise to collect the ball but misjudged the cross, which ended up in the back of the net.

As Airdrie battled to get back in the game Brown fired a couple of long range shots for goal that came close but failed to reduce the deficit.

The constant flow of substitutions had the subsequent impact of slowing the flow of the game down.

With less than 10 minutes remaining Clyde were awarded a penalty after a foul on Max Wright who picked himself up to bury the spot kick for a third goal.

In stoppage time a long angled ball by Ryan Conroy was collected by Cammy Russell on the left hand edge of the box and he reacted well to volley an excellent 20 yard angled shot past the substitute keeper, to finish off the scoring.
